Inspiration for design coming from a designer, not UI or AI.

A few days ago, I sent an email with the title "Design is boring now?" In that email, I talked about how most of the projects I see nowadays look like a copy of a copy of a copy (I've been using this analogy a lot lately).

I think the reason so many projects end up looking the same is that most designers are drinking from the same fountain of inspiration with places like Dribbble, Behance, Mobbin, and Savee.it. These are the most popular and obvious sources to turn to for inspiration.

So, I put together a little list of things that inspire me, keep me afloat, and help make my work stand out from a lot of the design I see around:

  • Jesse Senko – A YouTube channel about filmmaking and creativity
  • Paper and Light – A YouTube channel about poster design
  • The Last Yakuza – An amazing book written by Jake Adelstein
  • Dieter Rams – A documentary about his life and the products he designed

In this newsletter, I talk about all things design-related.
